Monthly figures are CareScout's annual Alabama medians divided by 12. The hourly home-care figure divides $61,776 by 44 hours a week for 52 weeks; the daily adult-day figure divides $14,950 by 260 days. Rates were gathered from providers between July and November 2025 and released March 2, 2026. Birmingham's newer congregate communities in Hoover, Vestavia Hills and along U.S. 280 will often quote above the state median; small group homes in Walker or Chilton County often quote below it. Neither statement is a published number, so ask for written rate sheets.

What does memory care cost in Alabama?

No published memory care median exists for Alabama or any other state, because CareScout does not survey memory care as a separate category; families should collect written quotes from SCALFs, which usually charge more than a regular ALF in the same building.

Specialty care costs more because the license itself requires more: Table A minimum staffing on every shift, a registered nurse and a physician medical director. Ask whether the quote is all-inclusive or a base rate plus care levels, and what triggers a level increase.

What do Birmingham nursing homes cost per day?

Alabama's 2025 median is $100,010 a year for a semi-private nursing home room, about $274 a day or $8,334 a month, and $105,441 for a private room, about $289 a day.

Medicare pays for up to 100 days of skilled nursing after a qualifying hospital stay, in full for the first 20 days and with a daily coinsurance after that. Long-term custodial stays are paid privately, by long-term care insurance or by Alabama Medicaid once a resident qualifies; see Medicaid nursing home eligibility.

How much is in-home care in Birmingham?

CareScout's 2025 Alabama median for non-medical home care is $61,776 a year for 44 hours a week, which works out to about $27 an hour; adult day health runs a median $14,950 a year for five days a week, about $57.50 a day.

At $27 an hour, about 36 hours a week of home care costs the same as the assisted living median. Below that, staying home is usually cheaper; above it, especially with overnight coverage, assisted living usually wins. Our home care math guide runs the numbers hour by hour.
